It was in the warmth of Zebulon's kindness that Naomi had become completely immersed in his social circle.
Later, when Zebulon found out about the arranged engagement, he began to push her away. Naomi, confused by his sudden change of heart, believed that if she just tried harder and was better to him, he would go back to the way he was.
But as it turned out, being a doormat gets you nowhere.
Her heart had been shattered by Zebulon, and she had lost her dignity along with it.
But that was okay. She had the courage to start over.
Naomi took one last look at Zebulon and Tiffany, then took Patricia’s hand to leave.
Her movement snapped Zebulon and Tiffany out of their shock. Enraged, Zebulon kicked a nearby table, sending utensils clattering to the ground.
Other customers looked over at the commotion.
Naomi frowned. “Zebulon, do you think this is your house?”
These people worked hard to run their business, and he just destroyed their property with one kick. Did he enjoy ruining other people's efforts so much?
“Shut up!”
“Naomi, I’ve been too nice to you. Do you think I’ll never get serious with you?”
“Let me tell you something, you were the one who chased me relentlessly. I never had any feelings for you. You and your family, the Gonzalez family, were the ones who wanted an engagement. I never agreed to it. And now you’re tired of the game, so you just call it off?”
“Who the hell do you think I am?”
Patricia had never heard such a ridiculous argument in her life. She stared at Zebulon like he was a monster. “Are you okay? You were the one who didn’t want Naomi. Now that she’s letting you go to be with your new girlfriend, you’re the one freaking out? Do you really think you can just bully her?”
