Zebulon was furious.

But he didn’t chase after them.

Frustrated, he tossed the unlit cigarette into a nearby trash can.

“Damn it,” he muttered, pulling out his phone to call Colin and the others.

“Let’s go to a bar.”

Colin and his friends were about to refuse, but they heard the raw anger in Zebulon’s voice and quickly agreed to meet him at the campus gate.

When they saw Zebulon’s thunderous expression, they exchanged worried glances. “What’s wrong with you?” they asked.

Zebulon snorted. “Naomi told me she’s serious. She’s really done chasing me.”

“Huh?”

It took a moment for Colin and the others to catch on. “Didn’t you already know that?” one of them blurted out.

They had both said as much to their families. Was there really any room for negotiation?

Zebulon suddenly exploded. “How would I know that? I just found out she was serious now!”

“Naomi’s got some nerve. She was the one who shamelessly chased me, and now she’s the one who wants to give up. Who does she think she is? You think I’m short on girls who want me?”

It finally dawned on them that Naomi was serious this time.

To be fair, Zebulon had been awful to her, hurting her again and again. Anyone else would have given up long ago.

The fact that Naomi had stuck around for so long had led them to silently accept her as Zebulon’s wife.

They could all see that Zebulon wasn't completely indifferent to Naomi; he was just too proud. And since he treated her that way, they couldn't get too close to her either.

“Alright, alright. Your head’s not clear right now. Let’s not talk about this anymore.”
