Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 52

“Naomi!”

He grabbed her wrist, and Naomi cried out in pain.

Zebulon realized he had seized her injured arm and instinctively let go, his voice softening. “Are you okay? I didn’t notice…”

But when he met Naomi’s cold gaze, his anger flared again. “What’s with that look? Do you think I would do something like that on purpose?”

Naomi didn’t want to waste any more time with him. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she said, “Was there something I said that wasn’t clear?”

Zebulon cursed under his breath.

He paced back and forth, agitated. “What are you so upset about?”

“The only reason I rejected the engagement was because you changed first! That whole thing in the private room was just a joke. Why are you blowing it so out of proportion?”

“And the way you spoke at the dinner table—did you even consider my reputation?”

“Naomi, I’ve been good enough to you. Can you just stop this drama?”

Zebulon didn’t mention how strange it had felt not having Naomi chasing him around lately.

His pride would never allow him to admit such a thing.

Naomi might think he actually fell for her.

And how could he, Zebulon, possibly like someone who followed him around like a puppy?

“I’m causing drama?”

Naomi hadn’t cried when he’d grabbed her wrist, reopening the wound.

But hearing Zebulon’s words, she finally broke.
