Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 91

Naomi texted back, [It's fine.]

Some time passed without a reply.

Naomi waited for a long time, growing drowsy as she stared at her phone.

Just as she was about to drift off, her phone vibrated. She instinctively grabbed it and saw a photo from Lennon.

It was a picture of a pile of boxes on her doorstep.

[Have your housekeeper pick these up in the morning.]

Naomi was stunned. [What is all this?]

Lennon replied, [I was out buying some with Ron. We had a lot left over, and since I was passing by your place, I thought I'd drop some off for you.]

[They're fireworks.]

Naomi felt a strange warmth spread through her chest.

It seemed to be a pattern. Whenever she was feeling utterly exhausted, he would say or do just the right thing to pull her out of her funk.

[Okay, thank you.]

Instead of waiting for the housekeeper, Naomi threw on a coat and went downstairs to bring the fireworks in herself.

She stored them in the shed in the small garden, where she kept some of her most treasured childhood toys.

Some were birthday gifts sent by old friends, but a small portion was from Zebulon.

Naomi cleared a space, carefully setting the fireworks down. Her gaze then drifted to the gifts from Zebulon, and she found herself lost in thought.

After moving to Tyra, Naomi had rarely celebrated holidays or birthdays because Zebulon always called it sentimental nonsense.

As a result, she'd received pitifully few gifts. Most of them were things Zebulon had casually tossed her way, some even being rejected confession gifts from other girls.

Naomi used to treasure these items, but now, they were just a painful eyesore.

Pressing her lips together, Naomi gathered all of Zebulon's gifts, packed them into a cardboard box, and planned to stash them away somewhere.

The housekeeper heard the noise and came to check, breathing a sigh of relief when she saw it was just Naomi.

"Oh, it's you, Miss. For a moment, I thought we had a burglar."
