You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 959

“What do you mean?” Chelsea asked, a little lost.

Patricia leaned in, “Isn’t he trying to get back together with you?”

“Oh, that.” Chelsea finally understood. “I told him straight up, there’s no chance. I was serious, like, really serious about it.”

“He seems to get it. He hasn’t reached out these past few days.”

Patricia frowned. “But why not? Didn’t you really like him before?”

Chelsea took a sip of her milk tea and shrugged. “Liking someone doesn’t mean you have to end up with them. If Hector and I actually got together, got married, sooner or later we’d argue. If I had a complaint or wanted something from him, he could just shut me down with one sentence.”

“He’d say he never wanted marriage in the first place, that I was the one who dragged him into it. So if he’s bad at being a husband, it’s on me for forcing him.”

“Forcing a guy who doesn’t even believe in marriage to tie the knot is like handing him a lifetime excuse. Any time we disagree, he could just pull that card, and I’d be stuck. Why would I do that to myself?”

“I mean, the world is huge. Why would I limit myself to one man’s path? Either I lose myself for him, or I end up making myself sick with resentment. I’m just not doing that.”

Patricia stared at her, completely taken aback. It was like seeing Chelsea in a whole new light.

“Hector’s the type who’s proud to his bones. You never know if he’s chasing me because he hates losing or because he actually loves me. Honestly, guys like him, the so-called elites, don’t just bend for other people. No matter which reason it is, being with him would cost me way more than I’d ever get back.”
