"W—that means ‘late,' doesn't it?"
"Jonah…" Tyson's brow knit tight, his voice icy. "He's Elvis's cousin?"
Celia's tone turned sing-song and strange. "Yep. And he's not just anybody—he's The Prodigy Painter. Word is, he's putting everything on the line for this exhibition. The art world, here and abroad, is watching him. But get this: for the show's promo poster, he chose to paint Miss Thorne's profile. Didn't see that coming, did you?"
Tyson said nothing, his eyes glued to his phone screen, knuckles white.
When did Winona meet Jonah? What exactly was their connection?
She'd never mentioned him before. Not once.
"Ty, what if Miss Thorne left Seastone City all of a sudden just to see Jonah in the capital?" Celia's voice rose, excitement fluttering. "If that's true, maybe it's not Elvis she's close to, but this ‘Prodigy Painter'!"
"Enough," Tyson snapped, his voice cold as steel. "Don't start making things up."
Celia's lips twisted into a pout. "I'm not making anything up! The facts are right in front of us. If Miss Thorne and Jonah have nothing going on, why would he put her face on the most important poster of his entire show?"
Tyson yanked at his tie, clearly agitated.
"Ty! After everything that's happened, you're still hung up on Winona?"
"Celia," Tyson's warning echoed in the room. "I've told you before—Nona is my wife. Yes, I'm furious about how she acted this time, but I know how she feels about me. She could never really leave me. Not for good."
"You…"
"What is it?"
Whatever the person on the other line said made Tyson's expression change in an instant. "What did you say? That's impossible!"
The sudden sharpness in his voice startled Celia. She looked up at him, startled, and saw that all the earlier warmth had drained from his face.
When he finally hung up, Celia ventured, "Ty, what happened?"
Tyson's mood was like a storm. "A major tract of land in the new development—one that was practically in my pocket. Now, out of nowhere, the Thorne family from the capital is moving to take it."
Celia's voice tightened. "How could that happen? Why would the Thorne family… Wait, don't tell me—was this Winona's doing? Ty, don't forget, she's got a relative in the Thorne Group's upper management!"
