Victor's gentle smile softened his features. "Go ahead, ask me anything."
Winona hesitated, then said quietly, "Do you know why Elvis had to go abroad this time? He… he isn't in any danger, is he?"
Elvis had promised he'd make it back safe and sound. Still, a quiet unease gnawed at her, especially since that last phone call—after which she'd heard nothing from him.
Victor shook his head. "I don't know the specifics, I'm afraid."
He studied the worry etched across her face and chuckled. "Seems like you're getting quite invested in your fiancé, Nona."
A faint blush crept up Winona's neck. "Dad… He's helped me out so much since I came to Seastone City. No matter what, I just don't want anything bad to happen to him."
She'd only just tumbled out of a heartbreak; she wasn't about to fall headlong into a new romance. But that didn't mean she wasn't worried about Elvis.
"He's a good man. I wouldn't have chosen him for you if he weren't. Don't worry, he'll be fine."
With that, Victor let the subject drop. His daughter was growing up—teasing her a little was enough.
Later, tucked away in her bedroom, Winona saw a new email in her inbox.
"Everything's clear about Celia's time abroad."
It was from the private investigator she'd hired.
"Celia met a man named Eamon Wells not long after moving overseas. He's of Chinese descent, immigrated as a child with his parents. Eamon pursued her relentlessly, and they married soon after.
Celia managed a weak smile. "Y-yes… I heard."
Tyson's brow furrowed. "What's wrong? Aren't you happy?"
Tyson pressed a kiss to her hand. "It's fate, then. God wants us to have a child of our own."
Celia's eyes glittered.
Yes, fate. A gift from above. Even if she couldn't be sure who the father really was… what did it matter? Tyson suspected nothing, and as long as he was convinced, this child would be her greatest ally.
