Tyson's head was ringing, the world spinning so violently that he could barely keep his footing.
Of course, he knew that verifying a marriage certificate was the simplest thing in the world. But it had never occurred to him that Winona would actually do it.
Why would she even think to check if the certificate was real? Everything had been fine—how did things come to this?
Unless…
His eyes darted furiously toward Elvis, standing off to the side.
It had to be him. Who else would plant that idea in her head?
Tyson glared at Elvis, his anger boiling over. Clearly, Elvis had been waiting for a chance to steal Nona away from him all along.
"We were never married, and I've told you plainly—we broke up." Every word from Winona was unwavering, leaving no room for argument. "Tyson, can you please stop living in your own fantasy?"
But Tyson acted as if he hadn't heard her at all. He kept his gaze locked on Elvis, eyes burning with a wild, predatory rage. "It was you! You put these ideas in Nona's head! Elvis, you cowardly snake!"
He lunged forward, but Elvis fixed him with a cold, warning glare that made Tyson freeze in place.
"Watch your mouth," Winona snapped, her patience wearing thin. Tyson had no right to talk about Elvis like that.
"It's alright, Winona," Elvis said gently, his tone calm and reassuring.
But when he turned to Tyson, his voice was as cutting as ice. "Manipulate her? Tyson, you give yourself far too much credit—and not nearly enough to Nona. She makes her own decisions. No one's pulling her strings."
Winona nodded, squeezing his hand tight.
"Don't you dare leave!" Tyson shouted, trying to throw himself in their path, but Elvis shot him a glare so cold and commanding that Tyson found himself rooted to the floor, unable to move.
"Tyson, I won't let you near my fiancée again." Elvis's presence radiated authority—the kind that came from years at the top, and the kind that came from a man determined to protect the woman he loved.
Tyson felt the weight of it pressing down on him, his feet as heavy as lead.
Without another glance at him, Elvis took Winona's hand and led her away.
"Elvis!" Tyson screamed after them, his voice ragged with fury and humiliation. "You hear me? This isn't over! I'll make you pay for this!"
