A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 133

"Mr. Dalton, don't forget," Tyson said, clenching his fists. "You and my father were as close as brothers. And don't forget—over a decade ago, when your company was in serious trouble, if my father hadn't stepped in, you would have lost everything you have now."

Mr. Dalton gave a sheepish smile, clearly uneasy. He was about to reply when Tyson pressed on. "When my father passed, what did you promise him? You said you'd look after me, help me out… It's only been a few years. Have you forgotten already?"

The memory of his late friend made Mr. Dalton sigh heavily. "I don't want to fail your father, Tyson. But I have my own family to consider. If the Dalton family loses everything now, how could I ever face them?"

"So you really don't intend to keep your promise to my dad?" Tyson's voice was cold and hard.

Mr. Dalton's face paled, then flushed. For a long moment, he said nothing. Finally, he managed, "I'm sorry, Tyson."

Tyson let out a bitter laugh. "My father clearly misjudged you."

He turned as if to leave, but Mr. Dalton suddenly spoke again. "I can't help you directly, but… I can point you toward a possible way out. Maybe it'll help."

"What way?" Tyson asked instantly.

"The Quincy family."

As soon as he said it, Mr. Dalton grabbed his coffee and took a long, bracing drink.

The Quincys wanted to marry Winona, too? That revelation stabbed at him, sending a surge of jealousy and anger pounding in his chest.

But he forced himself to calm down. Jealousy wouldn't solve anything. Right now, he needed to focus on this possible lifeline.

"In the end, the Thornes chose the Rogers," Mr. Dalton continued in a low voice. "Now the Rogers and Thornes are about to become family—practically a formal alliance. You think the Quincys aren't anxious? If you approach them now, they'll welcome a new ally. They'd be fools not to."

He hesitated, then added with a warning note, "But you'd better think this through. The Quincys are no saints. Working with them is like striking a deal with the devil. They might help you take down Elvis, but if they ever set their sights on the Goodwins, you wouldn't stand a chance."

Tyson was silent for a long moment. Then he let out a laugh, the sound harsh and resolute. "Do I really have any choice left?"
