Jude, the youngest son of the Quincy family.
Chairman Quincy had two sons and a daughter, and Jude was the baby of the family. Rumor had it he was quite the wild child—reckless, rebellious, always causing trouble for the Quincys, especially in his younger years. Only recently had he started to settle down, at least a little.
Winona remembered chatting with her grandmother, who'd mentioned how accomplished the Quincy's eldest son and their daughter were. But the youngest? According to Grandma, he was the family's one disappointment.
"Why would he go see Celia?" Winona frowned, studying a photo on her phone.
In the picture, Jude was standing right outside Celia's hospital room, looking like he was about to step inside.
"That's what makes this so interesting," Veronica replied, a sly smile playing on her lips. "After Jude went into Celia's room, I had someone keep an eye on them. When the coast was clear, my girl snuck up to the door to eavesdrop. She was nervous, and the door was closed, so she couldn't catch much, but she heard them talking about ‘my child' and ‘paternity test' and words like that."
"So, there's a real chance Celia's baby isn't Tyson's?"
"Mhm. For all we know, it could be Jude's," Veronica said, her excitement growing. "Serves Tyson right for the way he treated you. I bet he's still living in his happy-dad fantasy. Just wait till Jude throws those paternity test results in his face. I'll be the first in line to watch him fall apart!"
Winona tucked the photos away and reached across the table to tap Veronica gently on the head.
"My brilliant Veronica."
Veronica beamed. "Does this make up for my last screw-up?"
"You can relax," Winona said, shaking her head with a half-smile, "I never really blamed you."
"I know, but I still feel bad about it." Veronica scratched her head, a little embarrassed. "Besides, we're best friends. I was overseas for years and couldn't be there for you… Now that I can help, I want to do everything I can!"
"Veronica…" Winona's eyes softened, touched by her friend's sincerity.
Winona figured Jonah was trying to help her move on, in his own way.
Once they finished their meal, Veronica glanced out the window and spotted a car idling by the curb.
"Hey, is that Mr. Rogers' car?" she nudged Winona and nodded toward the street.
Winona turned, and her expression instantly softened. "Yeah, that's his."
"You two have a date this afternoon, right? Aw, he came all the way here just to pick you up? Could you be any cuter?" Veronica pressed a hand to her cheek in mock distress. "Honestly, you two are so sweet, I think I just got a cavity."
Though she teased in her usual dramatic way, Veronica couldn't hide her happiness for her friend. Seeing Winona with someone who truly cared for her filled her with joy.
