A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 193

Winona changed into a new blue evening gown. It wasn't her favorite—certainly not as much as the last one—but with everything happening so suddenly, she didn't have many options.

"I thought I just heard someone talking," she remarked offhandedly.

"It was Jocelyn," Elvis replied honestly.

Winona glanced at him, raising an eyebrow.

"I didn't say much to her," Elvis added quickly, almost defensively. "If you want, I can repeat our whole conversation for you. Though… I can't guarantee I'll remember every single word."

His memory was sharp, but he had no interest in wasting it on things that didn't matter.

Winona had intended to keep a stern face, just to tease him a little, but she couldn't hold back a laugh after hearing that.

"You're such a goof," she said, reaching up and tapping him lightly on the forehead.

The two bodyguards following them had worn stone-cold expressions up until now, but they both instinctively shrank back at the sight. Who would've thought anyone would dare to poke Mr. Rogers on the forehead? And yet the young heir just grinned at her, doting and unbothered.

Elvis caught Winona's hand in his. "I just don't want you to even have the slightest reason to be upset."

"I'm not upset," Winona replied. "I trust you."

His gaze instantly softened, Adam's apple bobbing as he looked at her. The two bodyguards, sensing the mood, turned away in perfect unison, pretending not to see a thing.

Before Elvis could say anything else, Winona spoke up, "Alright, let's head back to the ballroom. We've been away long enough."

No one would dare question their absence, but since they'd come for the gala, there was no point in hiding out any longer.

Elvis sighed to himself but agreed easily, "Okay."

The executive cut him off, not even bothering to hide his intentions. Stroking his chin, he leered at Sue. "Eric, your wife is absolutely stunning."

"Thank you," Eric replied stiffly. "Perhaps we could get back to discussing the partnership—those products we mentioned—"

"How about you bring her over to my place the evening after next?" the older man interrupted, his tone turning even more suggestive. "There are a few things I'd like to discuss with her… privately."

Sue's face paled, her hands trembling as she clutched Eric's sleeve.

His meaning couldn't have been clearer.

She desperately wished her husband would just haul off and deck the man right there on the ballroom floor.

But… Eric didn't move a muscle.
