A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 198

Seeing the anger burning on Winona's face, Elvis shot Eric a cold, hostile glare.

This man had really pushed Winona over the edge.

Utterly infuriating.

But Elvis didn't say a word. Instead, he just gave Winona's hand a gentle squeeze, then opened the car door for her.

Winona slid into the seat. Eric tried to plead with her one last time, but the pain etched across his face reminded him sharply—Winona would never go soft on him now.

Back at their place, Elvis's phone buzzed with a message from Lorenzo.

"Got the answers. Just like those thugs at the bar, the waiter's boss is Eamon—Celia's ex-husband."

So it was him again.

Elvis's eyes darkened.

To think Eamon would have the audacity to meddle with the gala itself—he was getting bold.

Another message from Lorenzo: "Our team's already at Eamon's hotel. He's not going anywhere."

"I'll be there in an hour."

"Understood."

Suddenly, soft hands slipped over his eyes from behind.

"Guess who?" The playful, disguised voice was unmistakable.

A smile tugged at Elvis's lips.

She seemed to be in better spirits now. Guess all those corny jokes he'd told her on the drive home had done their job.

He opened his mouth to answer, but Winona cut him off, "Time's up! You didn't guess, you lose!"

Such a sore winner.

But what could Elvis do? He was more than happy to indulge her.

"Alright, I lost." Elvis gave a mock sigh. "I honestly have no idea who could possibly be behind me. Could you please, out of the kindness of your heart, tell me?"

Winona couldn't hold back her laughter.

She always teased Elvis for being childish, but at this moment, she realized she was just as bad.

Even though she was alone, she just had to pick a horror film—tempting fate, as always.

The atmosphere on the big screen was tense and eerie. Winona held her breath, nerves tingling. She hadn't seen this movie or even watched a trailer, so she had no idea when the next jump scare would hit.

Suddenly, the heroine's phone rang in the movie.

At the exact same moment, Winona's own phone vibrated on the coffee table.

A chill shot down her spine—she nearly screamed.

Fumbling, she paused the movie and grabbed her phone.

Clearing her throat, she answered, "Hello?"

It was one of the guards stationed outside. He spoke quickly, and Winona's brows knitted in concern.

"You're sure he's badly injured?"

"…"

"Alright. Bring him inside."

Moments later, several guards carried in a man covered in blood.
