A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 52

Over the next few days, Winona was swept up in project work, rarely setting foot in the office—which suited her perfectly. The less she had to see Tyson's face, the better.

With the project finally wrapping up smoothly, the weight on her shoulders began to ease. Soon, she'd be free of this place altogether.

Still, no matter how busy she got, Winona didn't forget to pick out a birthday present for her best friend.

She and Veronica had grown up together, though Veronica had spent the past few years studying abroad. Just a few days ago, she'd finally come back to the city.

They'd already promised each other: as soon as Winona returned home, they'd have a proper reunion.

On Veronica's birthday, around lunchtime, Winona was eating at a café when her phone buzzed.

"Aaaah!" As soon as she answered, Veronica Bellamy's excited screech rang out. "Babe, Nona! How did you know I've been dying for this camera? I freaking love you!"

"Keep it down, would you? I'm about to go deaf," Winona laughed, holding the phone away from her ear until Veronica calmed down. "I saw you liked an ad for it on social media."

"God, you're the best," Veronica said, her voice thick with emotion. "But seriously, every time I think about you being stuck with that jerk Tyson all these years while I was away, I just want to scream!"

Winona was silent for a moment before she spoke. "Tyson and I broke up."

"What? For real?" Veronica's delight was impossible to hide. "You finally came to your senses! I told you he was no good…"

Before Veronica left for school overseas, she'd met Tyson once, when the three of them had dinner together.

"Okay… Oh! That reminds me. No wonder I thought I heard my family talking about you getting engaged last night. I'd had a bit to drink, so I figured I was hearing things. But it's true, isn't it? You're really going through with it?"

"Yeah, I told my dad I'd do it," Winona said quietly. "I just have no idea who the guy is yet."

"Oh, I heard his name yesterday!" Veronica's memory clicked. "I think it was Jo—Jonah Rogers! You remember him? He's from the second branch of the Rogers family."

Winona glanced down at her lunch, poking at her food. "Yeah, the name rings a bell."

"My family said you two would be a good match. Honestly, I think so too. Jonah's pretty good-looking, and he's a well-known artist now. Supposedly, he's got an exhibition coming up soon."
