A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 73

"You're acting weird," Veronica said, peering at her through the screen. "Is something on your mind?"

She paused, then added, "Wait, you're not still thinking about Tyson, are you? Nona, he's not worth it."

Winona laughed, brushing it off. "What are you talking about? Him? Honestly, Tyson means nothing to me now—might as well be yesterday's trash."

After discovering those brutal truths, the Winona who once loved Tyson so deeply had vanished completely.

Sure, she'd been foolish before. But if she kept being a fool even after learning the truth, she'd lose all respect for herself.

"Good. Forget him. Isn't it much better to come back and fall in love with our genius artist?"

"Don't start," Winona said reflexively.

"Why not? You two are about to get engaged, aren't you? That's pretty much dating, if you ask me."

Winona had no decent retort for that.

"We'll see what happens," she said quietly.

"Alright, I'm off to play my game. Get some sleep! I'll be waiting for you to come home, mwah!"

With that, Veronica ended the call.

Winona grabbed a fresh sheet mask and pressed it onto her face.

She felt surprisingly calm, her mind unusually clear.

She'd agreed to this engagement herself. There was no one else to hold accountable—she'd made her choice, and now she had to own it.

Maybe, at some point, someone had stumbled unexpectedly into her life and stirred up gentle ripples in her heart.

But in the end, everything would settle again.

——

On the morning of the fifteenth, Winona arrived at the airport right on time.

Elvis was already waiting for her.

When she spotted him, she greeted him with easy composure. "Good morning, Mr. Rogers."

Elvis's assistant reached for her luggage, but she smiled politely and declined.

The assistant glanced at Elvis.

"I'll have you dropped off at the Thorne estate first," Elvis said.

"Thank you, Mr. Rogers, but my family sent a car for me. It should be waiting outside right now."

Elvis didn't insist.

"Mr. Rogers…" Winona turned to him, wanting to thank him again, but realized that what she owed him couldn't be summed up in a few words.

In the end, all she said was, "Goodbye."

Elvis met her gaze, his tone unreadable. "We'll be seeing each other again soon."

Given the current relationship between their families, that was only natural. Winona didn't read too much into it. She pulled her suitcase behind her and walked away.

Her heels clicked sharply and confidently across the floor, the sound gradually fading as she put distance between herself and Elvis's footsteps.
