A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 195

Tired of Starla’s disappearing acts, Fairfax moved his entire office to Luwood Mountain. For the rest of the afternoon, the villa was a revolving door of Yelchin Group executives. It seemed the company was in serious trouble, as Starla could hear Fairfax’s angry shouts even from downstairs. Afterward, pale-faced executives would hurry out and leave.

Starla was on the phone with Tanya, who was complaining when she heard Starla was back at Luwood Mountain.

“Seriously, what’s the point of Fairfax keeping you locked up like this?” Tanya grumbled. “Does he want another taste of that poisoned broth you fed him?”

Even Tanya had to admit, Starla had been ruthless. Knowing the broth was poisoned, she had still fed the entire bowl to Fairfax.

Thinking back on it, Starla realized Fairfax had been different since that day. Before, he had a careless, rebellious air. Now, there was a manic energy simmering just beneath his calm exterior. He was a ticking time bomb, and no one knew when he would explode.

“He just won’t agree to a divorce,” Starla said, exasperated.

The lawyer had been flown in from Yoran Country, handpicked by the Hoggart Group’s prestigious legal team. Garret had told her the man had been cramming Marina City’s divorce laws for days, preparing for the case.

“You think a lawsuit will work? I can’t see Fairfax ever agreeing to a divorce,” Tanya said skeptically. It seemed that once you were entangled with a man like him, escape was impossible. What a mess!

“My brother has also started putting pressure on the Yelchin Group,” Starla added. The parade of stressed-out executives was proof that her brother’s efforts were already taking a significant toll. “Between the pressure from the Hoggart Group, the divorce lawsuit, and his need for Justin… I don’t think he can afford to drag this out.”
