A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 196

She, on the other hand, had all the time in the world. But did Fairfax?

“Don’t worry,” Starla said with confidence. “For Brinley’s child, he won’t choose to prolong this fight with me.”

Based on how he’d always dropped everything for Brinley, she was certain he’d do the same for Brinley’s son.

Hearing this, Tanya didn’t know what else to say. Starla had clearly prepared for every possibility; her determination to leave Fairfax was absolute.

Just as she hung up, another call came in from an unknown number. Starla answered it without thinking.

“You’re the one who told him to kill Tiberius, weren’t you?” Annika’s voice, tight with rage, hissed through the phone. It was clear how important the ‘dog’ had been to her.

“Throughout the entire Yelchin family, only Brinley has that kind of power over him. Who am I to command such a thing?”

Starla’s reply was laced with light, mocking laughter. Everyone in the family knew Brinley could summon Fairfax with a single word. So why was Annika directing her fury at her?

Annika’s breathing grew ragged with anger. “Don’t you dare use that snide tone with me! You haven’t divorced Fairfax yet, which means you will still address me as your grandmother.”

“What are you talking about?”

“The poison you intended for me yesterday? I fed all of it to your grandson.”

“Starla!” Annika’s voice cracked with fury.

“You should be grateful it wasn’t a stronger dose,” Starla continued, her tone dangerously calm. “If you had truly wanted me dead, you’d probably be on your way back from the sanatorium right now to say your final goodbyes to him.”
