A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 267

Gabriel slipped out of the office, leaving the three of them alone.

Fairfax's gaze fell on Xenia, who flinched.

"Fairfax," she began, trying to sound brave, "are you… are you going to sign it?"

That witch Starla actually had the nerve to file for divorce herself. But at this point, after all the chaos, it didn't matter who initiated it. As long as they were divorced, that was all that mattered.

Fairfax's eyes narrowed, his stare turning dangerously sharp. Xenia felt a suffocating pressure in her chest and didn't dare say another word.

"You," Fairfax growled, "get out."

Xenia was stunned. "Fairfax, you—"

"Get out!" he repeated, his words laced with fury. He blamed Xenia for at least half of the animosity that had festered between Starla and Darleen over the past two years, and he had no patience left for her manipulations.

Feeling wronged by his harsh dismissal, Xenia looked from Fairfax to her mother.

Darleen, equally annoyed, said, "Just go wait outside."

"Fine," Xenia agreed. She was more than willing to escape the crushing weight of Fairfax's anger. Before leaving, she shot Darleen a meaningful look, silently urging her to make sure Fairfax signed the papers.

With Xenia gone, only Fairfax and Darleen remained. Darleen picked up the agreement and skimmed through it, flipping directly to the section on asset division. When she saw that Starla was demanding half of everything, her face turned pale with rage.

"We'll sign," she said through gritted teeth, "but not like this."

This wasn't a divorce agreement; it was an extortion letter targeting the Yelchin family. Darleen was practically shaking with fury.

"Hold on," she said, grabbing her phone and storming out of the office.

Xenia was waiting anxiously outside. Seeing her mother emerge, she quickly asked, "Mom, how did it go? Did Fairfax sign?"

Darleen ignored her, marching grim-faced into a nearby reception room and slamming the door. Soon, her enraged shouts could be heard from within.

Xenia glanced nervously back at the office, where Fairfax was still smoking, lost in thought. He looked up, and his eyes met Xenia's. The chilling coldness in his gaze made her shudder. She knew, without a doubt, that his resentment toward her had reached its peak.
