A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 355

The Yelchin family estate had become uninhabitable for everyone. But all their other properties were destroyed today. Darleen had even called the police. But what good did that do? There was no proof Starla was behind the fires, just like there had been no proof with the baby. Without evidence, they were powerless.

It was clear Brinley couldn’t continue her postpartum recovery in the main house. Darleen, after some thought, decided they should move her to Luwood Mountain.

At her suggestion, Xenia and Brinley both stared at her.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Darleen asked.

“Won’t that just make Starla angrier?” Xenia wondered aloud.

“Yes, Mom, that doesn’t seem right,” Brinley added.

Hearing Darleen suggest she move to Luwood Mountain filled her with a secret thrill, but she put on a show of reluctance. She couldn’t stand another moment in this house. Luwood Mountain, the estate Fairfax had built with his own hands, was a place she had coveted for a long time, but she’d never had a good reason to go there. Now that Darleen had brought it up, she was tempted.

“What’s not right about it?” Darleen snapped. “She’s the one who refuses to go back to Luwood Mountain and insists on squatting in our home. If we can’t beat her, we’ll just cede the territory to her, fine?”

“Right,” Xenia chimed in. “It was her decision not to return to Luwood Mountain. We can take Brinley there for her recovery.”

Although they knew Starla would likely retaliate, the thought of getting away from her was too appealing. After the day they'd had, they were all on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Darleen and Xenia exchanged a look. Then, Darleen nodded decisively. “Just listen to Brinley.”

If Brinley truly had a plan, it was worth a shot. All that mattered was severing the tie between Starla and Herbert. Once Starla lost her powerful backer, their moment would come.

Xenia, initially bewildered, saw her mother’s approval and nodded. “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”

“I’m going to talk to Fairfax now,” Darleen announced. “We’re moving to Luwood Mountain immediately!”
