A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 441

Inside the coffee shop, Herbert glanced at Starla’s face, a satisfied smile playing on his lips.

“You seem to be recovering well these past few days. You’ve got some color back in your cheeks.”

“I had someone prepare all the supplements Tanya brought over,” she replied.

The past few days had been utter chaos for the Yelchin family, but Starla had been taking excellent care of herself. While they starved, she ate heartily, since her own staff was preparing her meals. She had nothing to worry about.

Hearing that she’d consumed all the nourishing foods he’d sent, Herbert’s smile widened. He slid a file folder across the table to her.

“What’s this?” Starla asked.

“All the evidence. If you’re done playing games, you can send Darleen to prison. This is enough to keep her there for the rest of her life, or even… get her the death penalty.”

“There’s this much?” Starla was stunned.

She hadn’t dared ask Garret to investigate her mother’s death since he worked for Yardley. So, she had asked Herbert for help instead.

“Your mother was just one of her victims,” Herbert stated calmly.

A flicker of rage ignited within Starla. An image of Darleen’s gentle demeanor toward Brinley flashed in her mind. She had always assumed Darleen’s disdain for her stemmed from her humble origins. But seeing how warm and kind Darleen could be to someone of equal standing, she’d thought her heart couldn't be entirely black.

Ever since learning of her mother's connection to Darleen, that perception had been shattered. Now, hearing that her mother was just one of many victims, Starla truly grasped the depth of Darleen’s malevolence.

She opened the folder and found a thick stack of documents detailing Darleen’s crimes. As Starla flipped through them, Herbert, sipping his coffee, added, “The last file is on Xenia.”
