A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 460

That was a stain that would follow her for the rest of her life. She couldn't let herself end up there, no matter what.

Starla let out a soft, cold laugh. "You don't know what I'm talking about?"

Brinley shook her head frantically. "No, I don't!"

"Then you'd better think hard," Starla said, pulling her phone back. She turned to go back into her room.

Desperate, Brinley grabbed her leg. "Starla, I'm begging you, just let me see my son. You've lost a child too. You know how painful it is for a mother to face that."

"No, you're not in pain," Starla stated flatly.

"Are you even human?" Brinley burst out, incensed. She was the child's mother; how could she not be in pain? In her fury, she blurted out her true thoughts.

"At least I don't do inhuman things, unlike you."

Starla's words hit Brinley like a physical blow, making her shudder. She looked up into Starla’s eyes and felt a hollow sense of dread. How could she have forgotten? Any small comfort they received now had to be approved by Starla. What had she just done? Why had she said what she was really thinking?

Meeting Starla's queen-like gaze, Brinley lowered her head in humiliation. "I'm sorry, I… I was just so anxious!"

"You're not anxious for your child," Starla corrected her. "You're just not sincere enough in your surrender."

With that, she kicked Brinley's hand away. She was the one who committed the acts, yet she claimed she didn't know what Starla was talking about? It wasn't that she didn't know; she just didn't dare to admit it.
