From the looks of it, Yvonne wasn't just the one that got away; they were childhood sweethearts.
That meant the 'kind benefactor' who had been supporting Yvonne was almost certainly Julius. In other words, they had been in contact this whole time.
In that moment, her heart, already riddled with a thousand wounds, seemed to stop beating.
She shut off her phone and leaned back on the sofa, staring blankly at the silent images on the television. She didn't know how long she sat there before she finally turned her head, her eyes landing on the divorce agreement on the table.
The wind blowing through the window was warm, but Janina felt a deep chill run through her, and a film of moisture blurred her vision. She had chosen this path, made this mistake, and now she had to pay the price.
Ten years. It had all been for nothing.
Around midnight, Julius returned home, looking exhausted.
He saw Janina on the sofa and froze for a second, surprised to find her still awake.
He changed into his slippers at the entrance and walked toward her. "Why are you still up so late?"
Janina met his gaze. "Waiting for you."
A faint smile touched Julius's lips as he sat down next to her. He assumed his cold shoulder treatment over the past few days had worked and that she was waiting up to reconcile with him.
The moment Julius sat down, Janina instinctively shot up from the sofa. She hated the cloying scent of perfume on him, and she hated his touch even more.
She walked over to the table, picked up the divorce agreement, and held it out to him.
"Sign it."
When Julius saw the document, his first reaction was disbelief. After a moment of shock, his eyes blazed with anger as he glared at her. "Are you ever going to stop this?!"
