If it weren't for the fact that Yvonne was sick and pregnant, Janina would have decked her right then and there.
Janina glanced at the cup in her hands, keeping a safe distance.
Seeing Janina remain silent, Yvonne pushed the cup closer, her expression shifting to one of grievance as her voice rose.
"Miss Holt, are you still angry with me? I'm truly sorry. Please don't be mad, okay?"
Janina glanced at the closed doors of the guest room and the study. Her smile faded, replaced by a cold tone.
"There's no one else here. Drop the act, it's exhausting to watch. Just tell me why you're here."
During their recent cold war, Julius usually slept in the guest room or the study. Since neither room had a light on, Janina assumed he was already asleep.
What was Yvonne's game tonight? Was she trying to stir up trouble because she hadn't managed to get into Julius's bed? Or was she trying to get his attention? Or maybe she was trying to frame her again?
A flicker of caution ignited in Janina. With a schemer like Yvonne, she had to be on her guard at all times.
"Are you sure you're not angry at all, Miss Holt?"
Before Janina could process it, Yvonne's voice came again. The mask of innocence had dropped, replaced by a cold smugness.
She stepped closer to Janina, holding the cup in one hand. With the other, she lifted the sleeve of the pajama top and brushed her cheek against the fabric, her voice low and provocative.
"Ah, Julius's clothes are so comfortable. Wearing them feels just like he's holding me. It's so reassuring."
The rage Janina had been suppressing finally erupted.
