Yvonne, her back against the wall, edged away from Janina, the pain on her face a mask for the triumphant glint in her eyes.
"Of course. It's because Julius always protected me, so you didn't dare touch me. Now that he's not here, you think you can do whatever you want."
Janina scoffed and grabbed Yvonne's chin again, her nails digging in enough to leave a mark. For a moment, she wanted to twist it right off.
"You really know how to flatter yourself. You're nothing but a shameless mistress. If you think this is how you'll force me to divorce Julius…"
Janina squeezed harder, and Yvonne winced in pain.
She let go, patting Yvonne's cheek with mock gentleness. "I was planning to divorce him tomorrow. But now, I've changed my mind. As long as I'm his wife, you'll always be the other woman, hiding in the shadows, never able to show your face in public."
Yvonne rubbed her aching chin, her eyes cold as she met Janina's dismissive gaze. "The one who isn't loved is the mistress," she retorted. "Julius and I were childhood sweethearts. I'm the one he's always loved. You were just my substitute."
Janina spread her hands, laughing humorlessly. "So what? I have the marriage certificate. I'm legal. You're just… well, let's just say my husband paid for a high-class call girl for the night."
The line was a gift from her friends in The Graces' Chat. They knew she was going to the Aurelius estate that day.
Maggie had said: "Play the bitch. Give the Aurelius family no reason to fault you, and you'll get through it."
Melody had advised: "Whatever the Aurelius elders say, just nod along. You're divorcing Julius anyway, let him clean up any mess."
Wendy's take was more direct: "If they talk trash, give it right back. What's the worst that can happen? Especially with that bitch. Just pretend Julius hired an expensive escort."
Having delivered the line, Janina felt a surge of satisfaction and turned to go back to her room.
Through a film of tears, Yvonne glanced toward the guest room. A sinister light flashed in her eyes, and a cold smirk formed on her lips. She suddenly cried out at Janina's back, her voice filled with pain and desperation.
