Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 51

Seeing Janina lost in thought, the man waved a hand in front of her face. "Hey, I'm talking to you. It's rude not to answer!"

Janina snapped back to reality, meeting the man's inquisitive gaze. She forced a weary smile. "I'm not homeless."

The man sat down in front of her, stroking his chin with one hand. "Then what are you doing in this godforsaken place?"

Janina didn't want to answer. She didn't know this man or what kind of person he was, so she just made up an excuse.

"I had a bit of a situation last night. My friend will be here to pick me up soon. What about you? What brings you here?" Janina quickly changed the subject.

The man scratched his head, pushing his long, messy bangs back from his face, but they kept falling forward.

With a frustrated sigh, he muttered a curse under his breath. He spat into his palms, rubbed them together, and then slicked his hair back, where it finally stayed put.

Then he wiped his hands on his clothes.

Janina stared, speechless.

The man grinned. "What a coincidence. I'm not a beggar either. I'm just here to experience life."

Janina was floored.

Experiencing life in a place like this... was certainly a unique choice.

She asked tentatively, "Do you have a phone?"

Instead of answering, the man lifted one buttock and pulled a phone from his pocket. "Of course. How else would I pass the time?"

He then flipped it in his hand and slid it back into his pocket.

Janina's eyes lit up, her excitement palpable. "Could I please borrow your phone to make a call?"

The man blinked but said nothing. He lifted his buttock again, pulled out the phone, and handed it to her. "Here."

"Thank you." Janina's hands were trembling as she took it. He had no idea what she'd been through since last night.
