After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 240

As soon as Jordan saw Natalie walk in, he set aside everything he was working on and stood up from his desk. He walked over with a smile. “Natalie, what brings you here?” he asked. “You should’ve called me. I would’ve come down and met you in the lobby.”

When he reached her, he gently took her arm and led her over to the sofa in the guest area. “My computer’s still running and you know how much radiation it gives off. It’s safer to sit over here,” he said, guiding her to a more comfortable spot.

The secretary quietly closed the office door behind them, her eyes flickering with a mix of sarcasm and envy before she disappeared.

Once Natalie sat down, Jordan poured her a glass of warm water and settled next to her on the couch.

“Something’s wrong, isn’t it?” he asked softly.

They’d known each other forever, grown up side by side, and had been married long enough to read each other like an open book. Jordan could always tell when something was bothering her.

Natalie let out a sigh, her frustration clear. “Cynthia’s got the easiest life. All she does is eat and shop. The minute I married in, you put me in charge of the house and let her do whatever she wants.”

Jordan looked at her, a bit amused. “What did she do this time? Cynthia’s always lived like that. There’s really nothing in the house that needs her attention. She’s my dad’s wife, after all.”

He shrugged. “We can’t exactly have her scrubbing floors like a maid. Dad would lose his mind if he heard about that.”

Jordan reached for Natalie’s hand and pressed a gentle kiss to her knuckles. “Natalie, you know this house will be ours someday. You’re the woman of the house now. Would you really want her running things?”

“Of course not. She’s not even your real mom. Why should she have any say in our lives?” Natalie shot back.
