Damon:
“We are going to need to run through these before the meeting. You know that we don’t want to be behind on anything.” Sienna said, and I hummed in response before taking her hand in mine, gently kissing her knuckle.
“You don’t need to worry too much. I already have everything ready and covered. All I want from you is to relax, Sienna.” I said, making her eyes soften. She was sitting on my lap as we were both in the office.
I pulled her to my chest, wrapping my arms around her, as I kissed her shoulder. “Sometimes, you are going to need to allow yourself to relax.”
“You’ve been telling me that all morning. It is not going to change the fact that we are going to need to run through these papers, Damon.” She said, making me laugh. She turned to face me, and leaned in, connecting her lips with mine.
“Well, if we proceed with this, I believe that I am going to find a different reason as to why we won’t be going through these papers.” I whispered, wrapping my arms around her. She laughed and I connected my lips with hers one more time before the two of us got up.
I smiled and took her hand in mine, intertwining our fingers before taking the folder from her. “You are the reason why I can find it in myself to be in peace, even at work.”
I kissed her temple before we both walked out of the office. And though the smile on our faces was when we were in the office, I should have realized the it wasn’t going to be one that lasted for long.
Not when we had enemies lurking around every corner.
I felt her fingers twitch in mine before I even saw him. His scent, aura, and presence was one that I didn’t like.
Sienna stood beside me, perfectly still, but I could sense the storm raging beneath her calm. Her pulse was quick, her jaw tight, and when I turned to meet the source of her unease, my own blood began to simmer.
Giovanni.
He stood in the center of the lobby, sharp suit, smug expression. Too comfortable in a place he should’ve been banished from. The moment our eyes met, his smile stretched wider, like he was waiting for this. Like he was enjoying every ounce of what he thought was control.
“Boss, I tried to stop him, he said he would wait here. I told him that he wasn’t allowed in.” My secretary said, and I nodded, knowing how Giovanni was. I couldn’t blame her. Even moving from her place when it comes to a man like him would be dangerous.
We all knew he had his ways.
“Damon,” he said smoothly, his eyes sliding to Sienna. “And… Sienna. You look well. I didn’t expect to see you here.”
Sienna’s body tensed even more. Her grip on my hand faltered, and before she could react, I pulled her gently but firmly behind me. A shield. A warning. Now was not the time for her to be talking, or to be throwing her anger at him. No matter how much she wanted to.
“Giovanni,” I said, my voice low and even. “Didn’t expect to see you today. Or any day, for that matter. As far as I am concerned, you chose to cut all ties, remember? Or are you already regretting your decision now?”
“Oh, I just thought I’d check on a few business dealings. You know, see how things were going now that partnerships have shifted.” His eyes flicked to Sienna again, a flicker of something darker behind his gaze. “The company has changed quite a bit … though I must admit, not all changes have been for the better. As far as I might be concerned, I cut off my ties, my daughter, however, is still your partner. She is a little ill, she is going to need some time to recover, and someone is going to need to manage things for you. You know, I wouldn’t want her to lose what she built by your side for an amateur who doesn’t know the difference between letters in a company yet.”
I turned to Sienna. Her eyes burned with something deeper than rage.
“Why are we waiting?” she asked, voice barely a whisper. “Why are we letting him walk around like he owns the world? Why is he still roaming around us without consequence?”
I cupped her face, brushing my thumb gently over her cheek. “Because we’re going to do this your way, Sienna. When it ends, it’ll end on your terms. I want him to feel it. To suffer for every bruise he gave you, every moment he took. But you need to be calm. Calculated. He wants you to explode. And he is going to take your anger as your moment of weakness. You’re not thinking straight, not yet, Sienna.”
Her eyes softened just slightly. “He deserves worse.”
“He’ll get it,” I promised. “But not yet. We do this right. For Isla. For you.”
She nodded, though the fire in her didn’t fade.
And neither did mine.
“Come on, let’s go to the meeting room. We have a few things to settle there now.” I said, wanting to distract her from this.” And after this, how about we go out for a cup of coffee? Yeah?”
