Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 275

Sienna:

I stared at myself in the mirror.

And for a long time, I just found myself staring.

I didn’t recognize the girl looking back. I no longer recognized the girl that I believed to be innocent, the girl that I thought would fight against all the odds to get what she wanted, to make sure that they were real.

Not because of what she wore, simple black clothes, a high-necked jacket, my hair pulled tightly away from my face, but because of the weight in her eyes. Because of the anger that I carried in my eyes, but most importantly, it was because of the feeling that I refused to voice out to anyone but the man that I loved.

Fear.

Not the kind that makes you scream.

It was not the kind that would make you explode or try to explain yourself.

It was the kind that lives in silence. In stillness. That coils inside you, cold and patient, waiting to see what you’ll do next. It waited to destroy you, eat you alive, and just make sure that you would end up breaking down.

“I’m fine,” I whispered. “Whatever happens, I am fine. I have to do this. I have to stand.”

It wasn’t true.

I knew that for a fact, and I knew that I was not fooling anyone. I did not intend to fool anyone anyway. But I also knew that I needed to stand strong for those that looked up to me.

I made it to the edge of the training yard when I felt him. The one person who kept me grounded. The one person who somehow, despite all the chaos, managed to show me that there was another side to this.

Damon.

He was watching me from across the stone path, jaw tense, arms folded over his chest.

I walked straight to him.

“You don’t have to put on the armor with me,” he said when I was close enough to hear him. “And you don’t have to keep doing this. You are already carrying enough, Sienna.”
