Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 11

Samantha’s POV

Zola’s howls turned to my screams as my bones shifted. I pulled my knees to my chest and rocked. Closing my eyes and trying to breathe through the pain. The sound of the children whimpering distracted me a little. But the pain didn’t disappear. I pleaded with Zola to heal me, but she didn’t respond.

Eventually, the sobbing children distracted me. When looked at the two small bodies as their hooded heads touched each other, possibly for reassurance. They must be terrified. “Your pain won’t be going away in a hurry,” Zola said sadly, urging me to go to them.

Since she arrived, Zola and I disagreed on many things, but the thing we were most excited about was motherhood. The unconditional bond between a mother and child.

These may not be my children, but what if they were?! would hope someone would help them. I crawled on all fours toward them, knowing that it was the only thing! could do for them. I could set them free, just like Garth did for me. I started crying, knowing that no matter how bad the past 24 hours had been for me. It was worse for him.

I yanked the knot in the rope around the girl’s ankle. She began to shake and shriek. Her reaction made sense when I remembered she couldn’t see anything. “It’s okay. I won’t hurt you.” I stuttered while reaching up and pulling thehood from her head.

She had a gag in her mouth, and her face was badly bruised and swollen. I pulled the gag from her mouth and touched the tears on her cheek. “It’s okay. I won’t hurt you.” I repeated. Seeing what those men had done to her made me feel less guilty about the wolf killing them.

“Zeb,” the girl said as her tears ran into her mouth. I pulled the hood off Zeb’s head. But as I did, I overstretched and fell to the ground. “Lady,” the girl shouted, “Lady, are you okay?” I closed my eyes and breathed.

“I will be. It just hurts a lot,” I told her. She sobbed as she apologized, as she tried to free her wrists. “I’m okay,” I lied as I did my best to get on all fours. I tugged on the knot to free one of her hands. Hopefully, she wouldn’t need any more help as the pain in my back was getting worse, and I could feel myself burning up.

She did exactly what I expected. She freed herself and Zeb. They could get to safety. I could shift into my wolf form and at least hide. Instead, the girl brought me a cup of water. As she pressed the cup to my lips, she told me her name was Jessica. “My back feels like it’s on fire,” I confessed. Jessica then poured what was left in the cup over me, causing me to scream. It was as if she had just poured boiling water all over me, but I knew it was cold.

“I’m sorry,” she cried.

“Look,” Zeb’s childish voice cried out.”Over there,” a voice called out in the distance. I went lightheaded and closed my eyes, so I didn’t look at what Zeb was talking about.

“Help,” both the children shouted.

“Help,” I whispered.

“Samantha, stay awake,” Zola yelled at me.

“Stay awake. Help is coming,” Jessica told me as she shook me. I held my breath as her gentle touch hurt me.

I tried to open my eyes, but everything was blurry. At least if I die now, l’ve saved the children. Maybe I was meant to save them. I could see blurry lights in the distance, and then there was a lot of noise. “Help,” Jessica screamed. “She’s hurt. She needs help,” Jessica yelled.

“We got you,” a man’s rough voice told me. “I’m going to pick you up.” He said. I didn’t want him to pick me up; | didn’t want to be touched. As that would mean pain. I just wanted to stay there and sleep. In my mind, I told him that as well. But he didn’t hear me.

I screamed when he touched me. Maybe it was from the pain, but I think it ran deeper than that. The last time l remember anyone touching me was Lily, and she hurt me so badly.

“Don’t hurt her,” Zeb shouted.

“I’m just trying to help her,” the man said gently.”I’m okay.” | lied to everyone as | lay there. The next thing heard was another man’s voice.

“Jesus Christ, What did they do to you? It’s no wonder she’s in pain,” he said. “I’m going to give you something for the pain so that you can be transported.”

* Go and get him, John. I’m a damned vet, an animal doctor.

Not a human one.” Ellie snapped at John. Zola and I started to become distressed at being left alone with Ellie. This shifter could do anything to us, and we wouldn’t be able to stop her. The door slammed shut, and Ellie appeared in front of me. She bent down and looked me directly in my eyes. “I know what you are, and you know what I am. I won’t harm you, so let me help you.” She said in a calmer tone.

“Who is she talking to, you or me?” Zola asked, not sure.

I don’t know why, but I felt comforted by her words. “Help me,” I pleaded.

“I’m going to touch you. Neither of you panic,” she said before touching my hair. “Ellie is going to help you,” shesaid. I trusted her words to be true. “Ellie won’t hurt you.

Just take some deep breaths,” Ellie said as her hand touched my face and held her wrist in front of my nose.

Her scent made both Zola and me relax. Her hand then slid down my arm. “Ellie will try to help you to the best of her ability.” She said, causing Zola to fall asleep.

“Who are you?” I asked quietly.

“Ellie. My name is Ellie.” We’re the last words I heard before I felt safe enough to close my eyes.
