Sam’s POV
I was sitting on the stairs waiting for Ellie to arrive.
Talking to Zola about anything, trying to distract myself.
My legs shook nervouşly as she was late. “Calm down, Sam. Ellie texted you when she left. There could have been traffic on her way.” Zola said, mocking me.
“I know, I just can’t wait to see her,” I responded just before I heard a door bang. Don’t get excited, it could have been anyone, I told myself, refusing to get my hopes up.
But as soon as I caught her scent, I jumped to my feet.
Then, when I saw her face, I was thrilled. It was like seeing a beautiful sunrise for the first time. I rushed down the stairs and threw myself at her. I wrapped my arms around her, crying. I hadn’t known Ellie for very long. But it felt Like she’s been in my life forever. “Are you happy to see me?” Ellie asked me, snickering as she held on to me.
I tried to pull away so I could tell her exactly how much I missed her. But she didn’t loosen her grip. “Because I missed you.” She whispered in my ear and kissed my hair.
This act of affection made me cry even more. I love her.
Reaching my apartment, I excitedly showed Ellie the thrift store treasures I had bought. I told her about my encounter with the men in the alley and how that motivated me to join a gym, and now that’s how I start and end my day. “It’s strange. For years, I was always forced to go to training, and I hated it. But now, when I have a choice. I can’t get enough,” I told her. Ellie grabbed my biceps and squeezed them.
“No difference.” She mocked. She may not be able to feel the difference. But my body feels so much stronger. I may not be at my peak yet. But l am working towards it. I told Ellie that I planned on joining the boxing club in the next few weeks and that I planned on doing some martial arts in my spare time. “I am just glad you’re keeping busy. Just be careful that no one finds out how strong you are.”
“That’s why l am doing the weights first,” I told her. “So even if I do accidentally punch someone too hard, I can blame my weight training.”
“How is Zola doing?” Ellie inquired.
“She won’t admit it. But she’s struggling.”
“I am not.” Zola snapped at me.
temper. It is also supposed to be getting worse with every passing year. Because his wolf hasn’t found its mate, and he refuses to take a chosen mate. It would be interesting to see if Ellie’s power could soothe the Alpha King. It would be even more interesting to see if her other powers affected him. But the pair are unlikely to meet. Not unless the Alpha King found himself in the human town of South View. I can’t imagine Ellie willingly going to the Alpha King’s palace.
“Home and work have been quiet since you left,” Ellie told me sadly. “So quiet that I almost spoke to someone in town.” She snickered. “Then I gave my head a wobble, and I remembered. I don’t like people that much. Not even John. I only use him for sex.” Oh my gosh, she is too much.
After catching up properly, we headed to her truck. Ellie told me she had located a secluded forest a few hours away, perfect for our girls to run around freely all night.” What is that?” I asked eventually after listening to something rolling around for a while.
She turned down the radio and listened. “I used my emergency kit the other day. Something must have slipped out,” she said casually. For Ellie, an emergency kit could mean anything. When we reached our destination, Ellie climbed around the back of her truck for a short while. Eventually, retrieving a vial of Lidocaine. “Why do you have that in your truck?” I had seen her use it several times in her clinic.
“Oh, you never know what you’ll need or when you’ll need it. I have a bag full of stuff, just in case. You know I like ta be prepared,” she said, laughing. I had never noticed what she kept back there, and truth be told. I don’t want to find out right now.
Because Zola deserves her freedom, one day I hope to give that back to her. I guess it’s quality over quantity, I thought as I stripped out of my clothes. At least it’s a wolf run with her favorite wolf. A wolf who wants nothing from-her or expects nothing in return, other than love. What more could she ask for?
