Aww Seven Exes Begged Cute Blocked novel Chapter 65

**A Promise Written on the Rusted Edge of Time by Dael Rowan Sire**

Chapter 65

Only two weeks remained until the National Aptitude Test, and the weight of anticipation hung heavily in the air.

Every day felt like a trial by fire as we faced practice tests that seemed to multiply in frequency.

The atmosphere in our classroom was thick with anxiety, each student lost in their own thoughts, the ticking clock a constant reminder of the impending deadline.

Our homeroom teacher, perhaps sensing our collective stress, transformed the last self-study period into a much-needed free time.

Maddie leaned closer to me, her voice a whisper filled with a mix of excitement and dread:

“After the SAT, I’ll be separated from my crush.”

I couldn’t help but smirk at her dramatic flair.

“This isn’t just SAT season, Maddie; it’s the end of unrequited love season.”

A memory flickered in my mind, vivid and sharp. I recalled the moment we passed the playground, where she had eagerly pointed out a boy, her crush, with an intensity that was both endearing and slightly alarming.

He was a lanky figure, his glasses thick as beer bottles, always lost in the pages of a book, seemingly oblivious to the world around him.

I remembered Maddie rushing over to him, a water bottle in hand, her face alight with hope. But all he did was glance up, his expression indifferent as he remarked coldly:

“Give it up, Madison. I won’t date someone who’s failing like you.”

I had felt a pang of sympathy for Maddie at that moment, ready to offer her some comfort. But before I could speak, she had shrugged it off, a smile breaking through her disappointment.

“That’s my cold, brilliant scholar! So harsh, but I love it.”

I was left speechless, my thoughts racing.

Maddie’s judgment was clearly clouded.

“Lily, do you want to date anyone?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Dating?

My pen froze mid-sentence, the question echoing in my mind.

I could feel the heat of someone’s breath on my neck, a reminder that others were waiting for my response too.

I shook my head, my voice firm.

“Dating is less productive than doing another practice test.”

Later that night, my phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with a message from Chase:

“Aww, Seven Exes Begged. Cute. Blocked.”

“That’s all you think about? Practice tests? Am I not better looking? Do practice tests have abs like mine?”

Attached was a photo of his chiseled abs, glistening with water, his pale skin accentuating the defined muscles.

Moments later, three messages popped up, only to be deleted before I could read them.

“M2??”

The next day, after school, Chase cornered me in a narrow alley, the walls closing in around us.

“Let’s talk after the SAT,” he said, his tone serious.

“About what?” I asked, feigning ignorance.

He tilted his head, leaning in closer, his gaze piercing.

“Dating.”

The realization hit me like a bolt of lightning—he really did like me.

I pressed my lips together, my heart racing.

“No.”

“Why not?” he pressed, his brow furrowing in confusion.

“You only scored three points on your essay.”

He scratched his head, looking genuinely dejected, his expression a mix of disbelief and disappointment.

“What does that have to do with anything?”

The tall boy with the perfect jawline loomed over me, and I couldn’t help but smirk.

“If you score at least average on tomorrow’s practice essay, then maybe.”

Chase gritted his teeth, clearly frustrated.

“Fine.”

Just then, my phone vibrated in my pocket, and in my haste, I accidentally answered it.

20:26

“Aww, Seven Exes Begged. Cute. Blocked.”

Ethan’s voice crackled through the speaker, authoritative and unyielding.

“Lily.”

“Pack your things. You’re coming back to West High tomorrow.”

His tone dripped with condescension, as if I should be grateful for his command.

Confusion washed over me.

Just as I was about to hang up, I heard a voice near my hearing aid.
