As Sam looked at Madison, she suddenly grinned broadly. He raised an eyebrow. "What are you smiling about?"
Madison came to her senses and met Sam's intense gaze. She didn't even try to lie.
"I suddenly remembered how Jan would always suddenly leave on urgent business whenever the three of us were together. Do you think she was trying to give us some time alone?"
While speaking, Madison tiptoed and leaned forward slightly, deliberately closing the distance between herself and Sam. There was a sly, fox-like glint in her dark, bright eyes.
Sam gazed at her, his hands instinctively reaching behind her in case she lost her balance and fell. Soon, his pale cheeks were tinged red.
They were so close that the height difference between them gave him a full view of what was under Madison's robe.
Sam cleared his throat. "Stand properly!"
Sam pushed Madison back gently.
Madison found it extremely endearing to see him attempting to sound stern when he was obviously embarrassed. It made her want to tease him even more.
"Sam, why is your face so red? Do you have a fever?" Madison blinked, reaching out to touch his forehead. Before she could, a huge hand grabbed her wrist.
Over the top of her head, Sam said in a deep, resigned tone, "Stop messing around."
Madison was annoyed at how obtuse he was being. "Fine."
Madison withdrew her hand and stood back, looking at the primly dressed Sam. Realizing he hadn't even answered her question, she asked again, "Why are you here, Sam? Do you have an appointment?"
Sam looked into Madison's probing gaze. His expression stiffened slightly, but he soon relaxed and said offhandedly, "I had a last-minute appointment, so here I am."
