When Johnny met Madison's icy stare, he knew instantly there was no talking his way out of this.
Thinking about what would happen if she walked away, he clenched his jaw and slapped himself. He hit so hard his cheek visibly swelled.
Everyone else was stunned. Only Madison and Janet saw that he was desperate enough to go that far.
Right then, Johnny looked at Madison with red-rimmed eyes and confessed, "Maddie, I lost my head and did you wrong. For the sake of our years together, can you forgive me this once?
"I promise there won't be a next time! I'll never see her again!"
By "her", he meant Kaitlyn.
Madison narrowed her eyes, held Johnny's gaze, and said nothing.
As Janet watched, she grew worried that Madison was about to cave.
"Johnny, I just realized you've got a lot of nerve. You hooked up with Madison's best friend and figured one apology would wipe it all away?" Janet mocked.
She aimed the words at Johnny, but the message was intended for Madison, and she made a point of emphasizing "best friend".
Madison picked up the subtext right away.
She gave Janet a steady, reassuring look, then told Johnny in a cold voice, "Two days ago, you drugged me and asked me to forgive you for the sake of what we used to have. And now you're at it again.
"What, did you think what we had was some kind of currency you could spend every time you messed up?"
By the end, Madison's expression was pure scorn.
Janet zeroed in on the one thing that mattered, shocked and furious. "Wait, he drugged you before?"
The others were shocked too.
"What's going on? Johnny drugged her? No way."
"No wonder when Johnny brought up getting married yesterday, Madison shot him down."
