In the cheap rental in a rundown pocket of the city, a furious Johnny grilled Kaitlyn.
"What exactly happened last night? Why were you the one in that room? Are you jealous of Madison? Worried she'll replace you and I won't bother treating you as well?"
No one could really blame Johnny for saying it. For years, Kaitlyn had been jealous of Madison and had picked fights with him in private.
Kaitlyn's eyes widened as Johnny snapped at her. She let out a short, angry laugh. "I admit I get jealous of Madison, but I'm not clueless! We are on the verge of pulling this off. I wouldn't be the idiot who wrecked it now."
What she said made sense. She was the one who proposed the plan and pushed Johnny and Madison together. There was no reason for her to get cold feet at the last minute.
With that, Johnny's expression eased a little. But a moment later, he raked a hand through his hair, irritated. "If it wasn't you, then how did the plan end up like this?"
Kaitlyn kept quiet, her face set, and replayed every moment from last night.
It hit her that after she handed Madison a drink, she stepped away for a moment because of Janet. When she came back, she was the one who drank and passed out.
A cold suspicion settled in.
Had Madison already known the drink was spiked and switched her glass with Kaitlyn's the moment Kaitlyn stepped away? But how would Madison have known?
Kaitlyn suddenly remembered something else.
Back when they were trying to push Madison into marrying Johnny, the three of them agreed to make people believe that Madison and Johnny had already slept together at the college reunion.
By then, Sam wouldn't be able to keep them apart any longer. But the plan changed after Madison stormed into Goodwin Corp and caused a scene with Sam.
Kaitlyn's gaze darkened. "I think I know why."
