The painting was quickly bid up to thirty million. Then Zane raised his paddle beside me. “Fifty million.”
The crowd around us fell into a stunned silence.
Who raises the price by twenty million in one go?
But plenty of people were stubborn. They gritted their teeth and kept bidding.
In the end, Zane won it for eighty million.
I turned my head and saw Amelia’s eyes burning red with fury. A small, cold smile touched my lips.
The more she acted like this, the more certain I became.
That four–leaf clover necklace hadn’t just accidentally fallen into her hands.
She was the one who had cut my dress, put nails in my shoes, and stolen my necklace.
And I wasn’t about to let her get her way.
Bitch.
Amelia was fuming, clearly shocked I’d dare to provoke her right in front of Zane.
The next few auction items were nothing special.
Then a rare, century–old American ginseng appeared on the stage, and my interest was genuinely piqued.
Bidding on the painting was to mess with Amelia, but this ginseng… I actually wanted it.
My mentor’s birthday was coming up, and he would love this.
The starting price was one million–well within my budget.
I was the first to raise my paddle. “One million two hundred thousand.”
I wasn’t going through Zane. I intended to win this myself.
Amelia hadn’t been interested initially, but she couldn’t resist a chance to humiliate me.
Plus, how could I have the nerve to sit here, spending over a million of the Grayson money on ginseng!
She gently tugged Zane’s sleeve. “Zane, I want this ginseng. Max has been so weak since his last injury…”
She deliberately looked at me. “Elara, could you let me have it? Don’t fight me for this…”
I almost laughed. I bid first, but according to her, I was the one picking a fight?
I lowered my head slightly, ready to ignore her, when Zane suddenly raised his paddle. “Three million.”
“Elara, it’s not really useful to you anyway. Just let Mia have it, I already got you that painting. Can’t you take turns?” he said, trying to sound
reasonable.

Chapter 105
But I just smiled,
He’d promised me. He said he’d bid on things I liked tonight, as an apology.
Now he was asking me to back down
As if I hadn’t heard him, I raised my paddle again. “Three million and ten thousand.”
“Must you do this?” Zane frowned, looking genuinely confused.
I nodded calmly. “Didn’t you say I could bid on anything I wanted tonight?”
He was the one going back on his word.
“But Mia wants it to help Max recover. Are you really going to compete with a child?” he asked, his tone bordering on disbelief, before raising the bid again. “Four million.”
“Four million and ten thousand,” I followed without hesitation, sneering. “Yes. I’m competing.”
Truth was, the price had long blown past my budget. Spending several million on ginseng that wasn’t even perfectly preserved? I wasn’t an idiot.
