Chapter 109
But I didn’t even have the strength left to make sense of sounds anymore.
All I knew was that Theodore wouldn’t be waking up anytime soon.
My mind just… blanked out.
I slid down to the floor, my body curling weakly against the bedside table. Uncontrollable tremors ran through me–shock, leftover terror, whatever you call it. I couldn’t stop shaking.
But you know what? I won.
Ha Damn, Elara. You did it. All by your damn self. You took down that bastard.
I’m shaking, freezing, feeling like absolute hell–but somewhere in the haze, a part of me is patting myself on the back. I did something I never thought I could, I grew. Again.
And I’ll always celebrate every tiny step forward. It’s what keeps me going.
Now, slumped in this corner, half–conscious, I’m holding on by sheer will. By the raw, stupid, stubborn need to survive.
In my head, I’m Superwoman. Or some badass heroine from a TV show.
But bottom line is…
I made it.
Third–person POV
When Gavin burst in, this was the scene he saw.
The girl was shaking all over, covered in cold sweat, her hair disheveled and sticking to her neck, her face pale, her eyes unfocused, just curled up there like that.
Just seeing this scene made anger surge to Gavin’s brain.
He suppressed the urge to shoot Theodore dead on the spot, walked over with light steps, wrapped his suit jacket around her disheveled dress, crouched down, and rubbed her hair. “Jess, Jess, don’t be afraid.”
“I’m here.”
If anyone else had been present, they could easily have heard Gavin’s voice trembling
He was terrified.
The thought of arriving too late, of her being hurt beyond repair-
it chilled him to his core. If that had happened, he wouldn’t have hesitated.
He’d have killed Theodore in the most brutal way imaginable and then systematically destroyed everything that bastard ever cared about.
But even that wouldn’t have been enough. It could never make up for the agony of losing her.
God only knew the price he’d paid, the hell he’d walked through, just to be able to stand before her again.
And he wasn’t just standing here for himself. He was guarding Jesse for others, too.

Chapter 109
“Jesse. Jesse. Jesse.”
He held her tighter, burying his face in the soft thickness of her hair, breathing her in like a drowning man gasping for air. He felt something wet and
hot sting his eyes.
He truly didn’t think he could survive losing her again
Hearing someone calling het name, Elara’s mind regained a trace of clarity. When she looked up and saw Gavin’s fare, she realized she was truly safe
She was stunned for a moment, then the next second, she broke down and cried silently, tears sliding down and falling into Gavin’s palm
