Chapter 114
“Ahr
Theodore rolled on the ground several times, clutching his groin and howling in pain, breaking out in a cold sweat!
Gavin turned to Neil, his voice sinister: “Tind a place and get rid of him.”
Hearing this, Neil wasn’t surprised and was about to agree when Aiden frowned: “Don’t listen to him.”
Neil hesitated.
Gavin: “Since when do you listen to him?”
“Gavin,” Aiden understood his feelings but still spoke up: “Theodore must die, but not now. If he dies now, Margaret will definitely take her anger out on Elara.”
This statement hit the mark.
Even though they didn’t kill Theodore, Margaret’s fury still fell on Elara.
Elara’s POV
I stayed at the hotel for a long, long time before I finally made my way downstairs and caught a cab home.
“You’re finally back! You probably didn’t eat much at that stuffy banquet. I ordered some late–night delivery…”
Chloe heard the elevator and sprang up from the couch to open the door for me.
She stopped mid–sentence, her smile freezing. She took in my disheveled dress, my wiped–off makeup, the men’s suit jacket draped over my Her face fell. “What happened? Are you okay?”
“There was a… minor incident at the hotel.” I was afraid of scaring her, so I kept it vague.
Chloe’s eyes narrowed. “Minor incident?”
I forced a faint smile. “Yes. See? I’m fine, aren’t I?”
Both Chloe and I were just ordinary people in New York. As ordinary as it gets.
shoulders.
It was only because I’d been adopted by the Windsors all those years ago that I’d been dragged into that glittering, upper–class world–a world I still couldn’t completely escape.
But I didn’t want to pull Chloe into any of it.
I didn’t even want Margaret to know someone like Chloe existed.
Telling Chloe about today would only make her worry,
Chloe’s eyes reddened as she pulled me inside. “Someone hurt you again, didn’t they?”
I lowered my gaze and didn’t answer, heading straight for the bathroom to scrub myself clean from head to toe.
I washed my face several times with cleanser, then wiped it down with an alcohol pad before I finally started to feel clean again.
The dress Theodore had touched went straight into the trash.
Chapter 114
As for Gavin’s suit jacket… I scheduled a pickup for dry cleaning.
Chloe could guess most of what had happened.
But she didn’t press me for details. She just stood quietly outside the bathroom door, keeping watch. When she heard me about to come out, she quickly wiped her face and called out casually, “Hurry up, the food’s getting cold. This place has the best barbecue, I’m telling you. Perfect with beer.”
“Okay.”
I knew if I tried to sleep like this, there was no way I’d actually drift off.
I thought I’d hidden it all, but after Chloe had one too many drinks, she leaned against my shoulder and promised, “Elara, I’m working my ass off to get stronger.”
“Someday… I won’t let those bastards hurt you anymore.”
She nuzzled my shoulder softly and whispered, “If it comes to it, we’ll leave New York. Once I save up enough, we’ll go somewhere else.”
