Chapter 113

A chill shot straight down my spine.

When I was younger, I’d loved small, fluffy animals, especially puppies.

But Gavin was allergic to dog hair, so we could never have one.

I understood. Margaret didn’t care if I ate the eggs or not.

She cared that I was sufficiently obedient.

I couldn’t be myself. I could only be a puppet, my likes and dislikes entirely controlled by my master.

It was true when I was a child.

And it was still true now.

I opened my eyes, looked around the empty hotel suite, then suddenly slid down the wall, crouched on the floor, and finally broke down in tears…

Gavin strode out of the hotel, his steps sharp and furious.

Aiden followed behind, a slight smile on his face. “You seemed pretty calm upstairs. Why the sudden anger now?”

“Shut up.” Gavin’s voice was icy and sharp.

Aiden sighed, deliberately needling him. “Elara went too far. You were just trying to protect her, and she blocked you because she was afraid of making things difficult for Zane.”

“I never pegged her for such a lovesick fool.”

As soon as Aiden finished, Gavin stopped dead and shot him a glare. “Are you done?”

“No.” Knowing his temper, Aiden dropped the provocation. “But if you care this much, why not give her a little patience? Just ask her why?”

Back when he was raising Elara, he could still speak properly, still talk to her gently.

These past few years, he’d gotten colder and even worse at communication.

As if using a nice tone would kill him.

Maybe when you stand too high, it gets hard to bend down.

That worked in business–he was Gavin Windsor, he didn’t need to bend; others would scramble to climb up and please him.

But it didn’t work with matters of the heart.

Especially with Elara’s temperament–treat her gently, and she softens; try to force her, and she digs her heels in.

Gavin said coldly, “She brought this on herself. Why should I give her patience?”

As he spoke, his gaze landed on something, and his anger exploded.

Before Aiden could react, Gavin had already stormed over and slammed his fist into the newly conscious Theodore, sending him back to the floor!

Theodore opened his eyes to Gavin’s furious gaze. He didn’t even dare to cry out in pain and immediately dropped to his knees.
