Chapter 112
“Even if I were wrong, I wouldn’t let her go.”
Gavin found it ridiculous and spoke mockingly: “What’s more, I’m right.”
New York’s entertainment news all spread stories about Gavin being cold and ruthless.
But Zane hadn’t expected him to be so ruthless–completely ignoring any past friendship.
The situation reached a stalemate.
After a moment, Zane looked toward the bedroom: “How about we listen to what Elara has to say?”
Elara stood inside the bedroom, her hand on the door handle. Hearing this, a cold smile crossed her lips as she opened the door and came out.
Seeing her emerge, Gavin’s expression softened slightly. He crushed his cigarette butt and was about to wave her over when he saw her look his way and speak calmly: “Let’s just forget about this matter.”
Gavin frowned: “What did you say?”
His voice was very calm, yet it made Elara feel a chill.
Elara’s clenched palms were trembling, her face pale: “I said, forget it.”
“Have you thought this through?”
Elara lowered her head, her voice trembling slightly: “Yes.”
Hearing this, Gavin laughed coldly and stood up, his eyes staring at her motionlessly for a long time so long that Elara could barely stand steady.
“Don’t ever feel that anyone owes you anything again. You brought all of this on yourself.”
After saying this, he left the room, striding out with his subordinates.
Elara’s POV
I hadn’t expected Aiden to be the one to show up. He handed me a small bottle. “Take one more of these tonight before bed. You should be feeling almost normal by tomorrow.”
I took it. “Thanks.”
I’d met Aiden before. Of all Gavin’s… associates, he was the closest thing to an actual friend.
But he rarely came to the house. Almost never when I was there.
After Aiden left, I closed my eyes and took a deep, steadying breath. Once some strength returned to my limbs, I got ready to leave.
Zane came over, trying to help me up. “Elara, I… I want to thank you on Mia’s hehalf-”
“Thank me for what?” I dodged his hand, looked him straight in the eye, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “Wasn’t this your brilliant setup? She should be thanking you.”
Earlier, I’d been woken up by a barrage of calls from Victoria–one after another.
On the phone, she’d warned me not to make a big deal out of it. “Mia is still technically a member of the Grayson family, and Max’s biological mother. She can’t afford a scandal.”
Chapter 112
Victoria had even threatened to tell the Windsor matriarch about the divorce.
How rich.
I was the one who was nearly assaulted, and these people were still threatening me.
Hearing my words, Zane looked stunned, genuinely confused. “What are you talking about?”
Just as he finished speaking, his phone rang. After a brief call where I couldn’t hear the other side, he looked back at me, feigning concern.
“I have an urgent matter to handle. Can you get back on your own?”
Such a performance.
I sneered. “What if I said I couldn’t? Would you take me home first?”
