Betrayed I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 122

“I already told him you were on your way. He was so thrilled—he even asked me to prepare extra food just to give you a proper welcome,” Eleanor said brightly as we stepped inside.

But her cheerful tone faded instantly when we entered the empty room.

Her eyes flicked quickly toward the usual spot by the window, then out through the glass toward the parking lot—his car was nowhere in sight.

That man! He’d dashed off the moment she stepped outside to greet me.

Eleanor’s face showed a blend of frustration and embarrassment as she turned back to me. “Dr. Elara, my grandson, he…”

“Grandma, it’s a weekday. I’m sure something urgent came up. Really, it’s okay,” I interrupted, feeling a secret wave of relief wash over me.

I shifted my gaze to the dining table, which was lavishly set with an array of dishes. “Wow, you don’t just bake incredible pies—you made all this?”

There was honey-glazed orange salmon, a slow-cooked beef stew bubbling with rich aromas, seared garlic butter scallops that looked mouthwatering… The whole spread was a feast for the senses, and I couldn’t help but feel genuinely impressed.

Eleanor, knowing I was being polite to ease the awkwardness, muttered a few curses under her breath about Gavin before opening a drink and handing it to me. “Here, try this. See if you like it.”

“Alright,” I said, accepting the glass.

With just the two of us, I found myself relaxing a bit more. Not wanting her to dwell on her grandson’s rudeness, I made sure to eat heartily—so much so that by the end, I was completely full.

The food was seriously delicious, and somehow, every dish was exactly the kind of thing I loved.

Watching me enjoy the meal, Eleanor’s face softened into a warm, gentle smile.

“You like my cooking. You should come by more often, dear. I’m usually here alone anyway. My door is always open for you,” she said kindly.

“You live here by yourself?” I asked, a little surprised.

She sighed softly, a touch of loneliness in her voice. “He’s busy with his own life. He only stops by when he has time.”

I smiled back. “Well, then I’ll definitely come visit you more.”

Honestly, I didn’t have much waiting for me at home either.

The professor and his wife always welcomed me warmly, but I sometimes worried I was imposing. I tried not to overstay my welcome, giving them their space.

Eleanor’s eyes crinkled with delight at my words. “Really?”

“Really,” I confirmed.

After dinner, I offered to help with the dishes, but she insisted I sit back and enjoy my coffee.
