**TITLE: Pushing the Edge 159**

**Chapter 159**

As I sat there, Iditar quaked, and I could sense that Bai Batin was acutely aware of the hand resting in his grasp. It felt as if he was gradually, almost deliberately, trying to test the waters of our evolving relationship.

He seemed to be toying with my fingers, his movements light yet charged with an underlying tension. His sharp, penetrating gaze flickered to the space between us—a gap that, I had to admit, was wide enough to invite trouble.

Then, in a flash, his lips twisted into that dangerously alluring smile, and an instinctive shiver ran down my spine. I knew, without a doubt, that trouble was brewing just beneath the surface…

In the blink of an eye, his grip around my hand tightened with unexpected force, pulling me closer. My heart raced as I mentally reminded myself not to appear awkward, even as I felt myself teetering off balance.

I stumbled against him, utterly unprepared for the sudden shift. The air inside the car grew thick, heavy with unspoken tension and anticipation.

“Are you feeling nervous?” Gavin inquired, lifting my chin with a firm yet gentle touch. His voice was gravelly, as though it had been scraped raw, carrying an edge that was part warning, part challenge.

“My patience is limited. Keep this up, and I won’t hesitate to skip straight to the main event.” One of my hands was ensnared in his, while the other instinctively found its place on his leg. In that moment, a realization washed over me: our dynamic had shifted irrevocably.

Gavin now wielded all the control.

I nodded slowly, trying to mask the whirlwind of emotions swirling within me. “I understand.”

By that time, the car had glided to a smooth halt outside the imposing Windsor Group building.

A gentle tap interrupted our charged silence, and I turned to see Vera standing outside the car.

Even through the tinted privacy glass, I felt an urge to break free from Gavin’s grasp, scooting back to my own seat. I met his displeased gaze and, feigning seriousness, said, “We’re in a work setting now.”

I was surprisingly adept at maintaining the boundaries between my public and private life.

Gavin didn’t bother to respond; he simply opened the door and stepped out, each movement radiating an aloofness that was almost regal. The man who had just moments ago held me captive in a web of tension was nowhere to be found.

“Elara? Heading to R&D?” Vera’s voice cut through the air as she caught sight of me still seated in the back, her eyes widening in surprise.

I nodded, trying to keep my expression neutral. “Yeah, that’s right.”

Vera offered a warm smile before turning her attention back to Gavin. “Mr. Windsor, where were you this morning? The shareholders’ meeting had to be rescheduled…”

There was an odd tension in the air, a subtle shift in the dynamic between Vera and Gavin that I couldn’t quite place. A typical secretary wouldn’t dare question her boss’s whereabouts so directly.

Gavin shot her a flat, unamused look. “Are you the boss, or am I?”

His retort was sharp, devoid of any warmth. But it fit his character all too well.
