Chapter 195
The nightgown he’d chosen had lace trim on the pale pink neckline and hem, making me look even more docile and compliant.
I must have been distracted while drying my hair; my bangs were blown to one side, sticking up a little, adding a touch of playfulness.
My already fair skin was flushed pink from the hot shower, making me look like a ripe, juicy peach.
Even though I appeared relatively calm, my hands, nervously twisting together in front of me, betrayed my inner turmoil.
But mostly, there was a sense of resignation.
Gavin watched me, a mischievous glint in his sapphire eyes. “We’ll watch a movie before going to the bed.”
A movie, too?
My mind immediately went to that kind of movie. “A m–movie really isn’t necessary…”
It wasn’t like I was a teenager, though. Over the years, I’d had my own… physical needs.
But c
movies, I found novels more my style.
I couldn’t very well suggest to Gavin, ‘Hey, let’s read some erotica together instead.‘
He’d probably never let me live it down.
Besides, he was a man in his prime… why would he need to watch a movie first?
Could it be that he… couldn’t…
Seeing the increasingly strange look in my eyes, he knew exactly where my mind had gone. “What the hell is going on in that head of yours?”
As he spoke, he cast the screen to the projector.
I flushed with embarrassment, turning to see the movie title displayed on the screen 17 Again.
A movie as wholesome as they come.
I’d seen it before, but a good film was always worth a rewatch.
I was even more mortified. Meeting his mocking gaze, I wished I could just pry open a crack in the floor and vanish into it.
I dutifully sat on the sofa, preparing to watch the movie properly, when suddenly my wrist was caught.
Gavin pulled, and I stumbled forward, falling right into his lap.
His voice was a low rumble. “Closer.”
“…Okay.” I scrambled off his lap and sat down beside him.
The lights dimmed, leaving only the projector’s glow. The atmosphere was unexpectedly… nice.
The story in the movie was beautiful too.

Chapter 195
Even when reality is messy and broken, seeing a story like that can still make you yearn for something more.
The only part that wasn’t perfect was that in normal movie scenes, it’s the female lead resting her head on the male lead’s shoulder.
But here and now, it was Gavin’s head leaning against the top of mine, making me afraid to move a muscle. After a while, my neck started to ache.
I toughed it out for a long time, waiting for him to move on his own.
Unexpectedly, as the movie played on, the head resting on mine felt heavier and heavier. His breathing even seemed to become steady and deep.
I tentatively whispered, “Gavin?”
No response.
He’d asked me to watch a movie with him, and he’d fallen asleep.
I checked the time. It wasn’t even 9 p.m. yet. His sleep schedule was ridiculously healthy.
I waited until he seemed deeply asleep, then slowly, using my arm for support, eased him down.
Just a place
to let him rest properly on the sofa cushions, his head lolled uncontrollably and landed squarely in my lap, pinning me in
If I tried to move my legs now, I’d definitely wake him.
Faced with the choice of a major sacrifice (my freedom) or a minor one (my comfort), I chose the latter. I even put my phone on silent, terrified of waking His Highness.
I’d just forgotten about his phone.
When Gavin’s ringtone blared, I jumped. I silenced it while glancing at the caller ID. It was Neil. I decided to answer.
Neil launched straight into a work report. “Boss, regarding the project in France-”
“Neil,” I whispered, keeping my voice low. “It’s Elara. Gavin’s asleep. I’ll have him call you back when he wakes up.”
“Asleep?” Neil sounded surprised. “Really? The boss usually doesn’t sleep until the early hours. Never this early.”
I was taken aback. “Is that so?”
“Yeah,” Neil chuckled lightly. “But maybe it’s because you’re there, Dr. Windsor. He can probably relax more.”
Then he hung up quickly, leaving me to my thoughts.
His words gave me pause. I looked down at Gavin’s handsome, peaceful sleeping face, my emotions in a slight tangle.
In the past, we were the people who could make each other feel most at ease.
But now…
