The elevator arrived just then, and Isabel was the first to step out.
Adrian grabbed her arm again.
She had reached her limit and snapped, “Do you want me to start screaming right here? Let everyone, including your business partner, see how Mr. Blackwell, my legal husband, stands up for his mistress.”
“She is not my mistress.”
Isabel wasn’t listening. “Let go.”
Adrian hesitated for a moment before releasing her.
Isabel strode toward the restaurant.
Only then did Selena speak. “I’m sorry, Adrian. I was just trying to help your family.”
“It’s fine.” Adrian took the phone with the cracked screen from her hand and instructed Daniel to go buy a new one. “If you don’t want to go to the restaurant, I can have food sent to your room.”
Selena shook her head. “I didn’t do anything wrong. I have no reason to hide.”
She had seen the news online. Isabel’s decision to announce her marriage to Adrian at this moment was completely irrational. After all, Isabel had no way of clearing her name in the plagiarism scandal. A former lab assistant who had been a housewife for six years? Even if she were a genius, no one would believe she could develop something as groundbreaking as Y-2.
Selena felt she could win this battle effortlessly. As for being a mistress? Nothing had ever happened between her and Adrian. There was nothing to prove. The more Isabel tried to accuse her, the more innocent she would appear. As expected, being a housewife had rotted Isabel’s brain.
Thank goodness she had used the excuse of studying abroad to avoid marrying Adrian back then. A man always wants what he can’t have. She was going to be the ultimate winner.

Isabel had just chosen her food and sat down when her phone rang. It was old Mrs. Blackwell.
She answered immediately. But it was Oliver’s resentful voice that came through.
“Mom, why did you get physical with Auntie Selena?”
