In the days that followed, Giselle would contact Vivienne every now and then. The latter was still trying to work things out with Sebastian. Since it didn't seem like she was set on getting an abortion, Giselle wasn't too worried about her and continued to throw herself into her work.
One morning, she gathered all of the executives in the company for an important meeting. The meeting touched on issues regarding certain strategic directions, so Donovan had to be called in to make an appropriate decision.
Coincidentally, Donovan had just wrapped up his work and had some time to spare. He reached the branch office bright and early and entered the meeting room together with Giselle.
As the CEO of the organization, he devoted most of his time and energy to his company's core business—pharmaceutical research and development for humans. Matters of the Animal Health Department were handled by professional managers. He only stepped in to review general strategic directions and rarely tended to the department's affairs personally.
So, he didn't speak throughout the beginning of the meeting. Instead, he casually leaned back in his chair and listened to Giselle's discussion with the other executives.
Aside from him, everyone in the room was involved in a heated debate. Giselle wanted to stop the manufacture of a gut medicine for dogs and cats. On top of that, she wanted to channel a huge amount of the company's resources into improving and redeveloping the product.
All of the other executives were strongly against her request. They found her ideas naive and unrealistic.
Mike Lawson, the head of the Marketing Department, turned toward Donovan and said, "The Mini Gut Guard is our bestselling product in this category, Mr. Kane. I trust that you're aware of this.
"This specific product outperforms all our competitors in the same field. It's ridiculous that Ms. Holt wants to halt its production and invest heavily in its redevelopment."
John Rand, another executive, was also eyeing Giselle with disdain.
"You can't blame Ms. Holt for having a poor understanding of the product and the market. After all, she's relatively young and lacks proper experience," he spat.
He continued, "As much as we've tried to go along with her unorthodox ideas in the past, I'm afraid I won't be able to agree with her current proposal as it affects the company's profits. I hope you'll be able to give us a clear indication of what to do next, Mr. Kane."
