Donovan answered impatiently, "It's that foster kid of his, Gideon."
"His foster son? The one with the Grayson name?" Dorothea asked. She vaguely recalled hearing that Ethan had taken in a child seven or eight years ago.
At the time, she hadn't paid much attention to it. She assumed Ethan was just throwing money at sponsoring an orphan or raising a friend's child.
Moreover, his story about Gideon's origin was full of inconsistencies. He claimed that the child was adopted in Usna, but in the next breath, he insisted he was from Solbourne.
Dorothea never pressed further. Not once did it cross her mind that the child might be Ethan's bastard.
Ethan had covered his tracks well. He never allowed Gideon to have any contact with the Kanes and made sure that no one around him breathed a word.
Even Grace had remained completely in the dark until today.
Now that the truth was out, Dorothea struggled to believe it. "How old is this bastard of his? Where is his mother?" she asked, clearly curious.
It wasn't hard to tell that she cared about Gideon. The Kanes were already dwindling in numbers, and out of nowhere, a full-grown relative had appeared.
There was no way she could simply ignore this.
"What's the point of asking so much? He's just a bastard. What, do you want to bring him into the family?" Donovan shot back irritably before turning and heading downstairs.
"Oh, Don…" Dorothea sighed, overwhelmed by the chaos and unsure of what to do.
