Dorothea was exasperated. "Weren't you the one who brought up divorce just now? You're getting on in years, yet you talk about divorce as if it's some quick fix for problems. Do you really want to solve this issue?"

Grace wept softly, not knowing what to do next. She hated herself for that terrible accident years ago—the one that led to a hysterectomy. If not for that, she would have had three or four children by now, instead of living with this constant sense of insecurity.

"Don't mention divorce again," Dorothea continued, her voice calm. "You need to accept that Ethan has another son out there. Ethan cut ties with that woman long ago, after all. Stop pushing him into one ultimatum after another.

"He's kept the boy outside all these years precisely because he cares about your feelings. You've been married to him for decades… just keep living your lives.

"As long as you don't get involved with that child, I don't see the problem. Why work yourself into such despair?"

To Dorothea, Gideon might be Ethan's illegitimate son, but that didn't change the fact that he was her grandson by blood. It was impossible for her to completely ignore Gideon.

If not for Grace's influential background and her meticulously maintained image of a virtuous and capable wife, Dorothea wouldn't have taken Grace's feelings into consideration at all. She would have already had Ethan bring Gideon home and acknowledge him as a Kane.

Giselle, who had been silently observing, didn't dare voice her opinion.

"Mrs. Kane Senior, I think Grace is upset," she said, testing the waters. "Maybe it's better to let her rest upstairs. In fact, why don't you all stay the night?"

Her offer was nothing but fake courtesy to Grace.

Ignoring Giselle, Grace wiped her tears and rose to her feet. "Dorothea, you can stay here if you want. I'm leaving."

With that, she staggered out of the living room.

Though this was Donovan's private villa with plenty of spare rooms, Dorothea was used to her own bedroom and disliked sleeping elsewhere.
