Early the next morning, Giselle was already working at the branch office.
Donovan, on the other hand, slept in and only arrived at the headquarters around ten in the morning.
A short business trip was enough to leave his desk piled high with documents awaiting review and approval. Frowning, he took a sip of the hand-ground coffee his assistant had prepared and opened the budget report from the finance department.
He had barely started reading when the door suddenly swung open.
Donovan looked up to find Gideon standing in the doorway.
Gideon's face was set in a stormy scowl, eyes like daggers as he strode straight for Donovan.
For a fleeting moment, Donovan faltered, but he quickly regained his composure. His expression remained impassive as he continued flipping through the report, as though Gideon weren't even in the room.
Gideon stopped at the edge of his desk, glowering at him.
"What do you want with me?" Donovan asked, not bothering to meet his gaze.
His indifference was a stark contrast to Gideon's hostility. He treated Gideon as nothing more than thin air, completely unfazed by Gideon's attitude.
"Donovan," Gideon gritted out, his voice hoarse. "Back then… did you deliberately find Cecilia and forge that fake paternity report?"
Disdain flashed in Donovan's eyes before he shut them, as if the question itself was beneath him.
"I don't have time to discuss your messy love life with you," he said, still not looking at Gideon. "Get out. I'm busy."
Gideon clenched his fists, landing a punch squarely on Donovan's face.
Caught off guard, Donovan staggered back several steps, the metallic tang of blood filling his mouth as it trickled from his lips. His head spun, but Gideon wasn't finished.
All he could think of was how Donovan had set him up and stolen Giselle from him when he was about to marry her. Rage burned so hot that he only wanted to beat Donovan into a pulp.
He lunged again, only for a heavy kick to slam into his back. The force nearly made him lose his balance and fall.
He spun around and froze.
The man standing before him was someone he knew all too well yet hadn't expected to see—Zachary.
