Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 448

Gideon looked up at the sound, then froze when he saw the woman at the door.

Shuffling toward his bedside, Giselle feigned indifference and asked, "How are your injuries?"

He didn't answer right away. He took a few hard drags on his cigarette, then stubbed it out.

"Aren't you part of the Kane family now?" he sneered, his voice laced with self-deprecation. "Shouldn't you be with them, fussing over their golden boy? What are you doing here?"

"I thought you looked a little pitiful," she replied.

A low and frayed chuckle slipped from his lips. Given his current mental and physical state, even his anger had burned out.

"Yeah, I'm fucking pitiful," he gritted out. "Even if I rotted away or turned to dust, nobody would care."

Giselle couldn't stand the heavy gloom around him. Not wanting to be affected, she took a deep breath and said, "Gideon, do you have to act like a lunatic all the time?"

"This is all your fault."

She turned away. "If you're not up for a proper conversation, I'll leave."

"To be exact, it's Donovan's fault." He tilted his head back, closing his eyes as he gritted out, "I can't swallow this humiliation."

Seeing how consumed he was by his resentment toward Donovan, Giselle felt the weight of her own mistakes.

"I admit this is all my fault," she said after a long pause. "I played with your feelings before. If you need to hate someone, hate me. Don't go after Donovan, and don't drag the rest of the Kane family into it."
