After driving around aimlessly for two hours, Giselle stopped by the branch office to deal with some work. By the time she returned to the villa, it was already seven or eight in the evening.
When she walked in, she saw Donovan having dinner at the dining table.
She quickly shook off the gloom and acted as if nothing had happened. She walked into the dining room and chirped, "I thought you had another dinner appointment tonight. How come you're back so early?"
As she spoke, her eyes flickered over the table. There was only a small meal portion, just like his dining habits when he was still single.
However, Donovan didn't answer Giselle and continued eating silently. He seemed calm, detached, and indifferent.
Having been busy the whole afternoon without eating, Giselle was starving. So she took a seat and called out to the housekeeper, "Joanne, why didn't you cook a bigger portion? This little bit isn't enough for the both of us."
"Uh, well…" Joanne mumbled as she glanced nervously at Donovan. Then, she apologetically explained, "I… I had planned to cook dinner for both you and Mr. Kane, but he specifically told me not to make anything for you. I assumed you had eaten outside, so I only prepared this much."
Hearing that, Giselle turned to Donovan in confusion. "You didn't even call me. How did you know I'd eaten outside?"
As she spoke, she casually picked up a fork, speared a small piece of steak from his plate, and popped it into her mouth.
But Donovan still didn't respond. Without even lifting his eyes, he quietly ate his own meal.
Giselle finally noticed something was wrong with his mood, so she asked, "What's the matter?"
She tried to act casual and pressed further, "Is it because of the fight between Zach and Gideon? By the way, are you sure you weren't hurt? What about Zach? Did you guys call the police?"
