Giselle had always lived carefreely, rarely ever losing sleep. But now, she struggled hard to fall asleep. The moment she closed her eyes, Donovan's face filled her mind.
She even typed out a long, heartfelt apology, but deleted it before hitting send.
Upon thinking about that merciless divorce agreement, she felt he didn't deserve her instant compromises.
But as days went by, Donovan neither came home nor reached out to her.
Initially, Giselle thought she could be indifferent, treating him merely as a tool for revenge. But as his cold treatment continued, she realized just how deeply she truly cared about him.
Through countless sleepless nights, she finally realized that she couldn't live without him. The pain of losing him again was unbearable.
She once believed he was optional and that she had control over their relationship. But once he was gone, even breathing felt impossible for her.
One night, her chest felt so tight she could barely take it anymore. In the end, she caved and texted him, "I was wrong. Can you just come home?"
She waited the entire night, sleepless again, but his reply never came.
The next day, still dizzy and exhausted, she dragged herself to the main quarters. When she reached the door of his office and was about to open it, Leonard stopped her.
"Ms. Holt, Mr. Kane left on a business trip overseas three days ago," said Leonard.
"Overseas?" Giselle's heart sank. She prompted, "Which country?"
"Uh, Astrakhan."
"How long will he be gone?"
"I'm not sure. He hasn't given us any instructions about a return date, so it could be a while."
