Ethan softly asked, "How come that woman just admitted she lied? What did you do?"
Giselle couldn't reveal her own dirty tricks, so she dodged the details and replied casually, "Something like that. I went to see her these past couple of days, talked to her for a while, and hinted at her boyfriend's future. I applied some pressure, and she finally admitted it."
"Just like that?" Ethan asked skeptically.
"Yeah," she answered.
"Well, at least she confessed. We'll figure out how to handle her after Don is out and hear what he wants. For now, the most important thing is getting him home safely," Ethan said.
"Got it," Giselle replied.
After saying goodbye to Ethan, she drove off alone, aimlessly weaving through the city streets crowded with neon signs.
The lawyers were still handling the aftermath, and even if Donovan were released, it wouldn't be until the next day.
Even knowing freedom was so close, Giselle couldn't feel any relief. She clenched the steering wheel tightly as her mind replayed the absurd events of the past two days.
She knew that abducting Lauren and forcing a confession illegally could backfire, but she didn't care anymore. Whether she went to prison later didn't matter.
Still, she wanted to see him first. She needed to watch him regain his freedom, return home with her, and only then decide if their relationship was truly over.
The next afternoon, the lawyer called. The police had finished their follow-up investigation and confirmed that Donovan's rape charges were completely baseless. He would be released without any charges.
Relief finally washed over Giselle.
She grabbed her car keys and drove straight to the detention center, intent on picking him up herself. Perhaps this was the last chance to end their relationship with a shred of dignity.
